The amount of land in Indonesia consumed by fires by September 2019, has exceeded the amount burned in 2018, and is expected to increase even further. As the crisis escalates, Indonesia's environment ministry said law enforcement have been very strict through administrative sanctions, including revoking licenses and civil lawsuits.

However, continuing the downward trend in deforestation will be critical for Indonesia to meet its climate goals. What are the measures that can be taken by the government in order to combat Indonesia's long and complicated history of forest fires?
